Botox®:

BOTOX® Cosmetic, developed by Allergan, Inc., is a prescription medication initially approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for treating eye and muscle spasms by temporarily relaxing injected muscles. It contains a purified form of botulinum toxin A, derived from the microorganism responsible for botulism, a type of food poisoning first identified in 1735.

Approved for cosmetic use in 2002, BOTOX Cosmetic® effectively targets facial lines caused by repeated muscle contractions, particularly in areas like the forehead, around the eyes, and on the neck. Over the past two decades, its applications have expanded to include treating various medical conditions, such as excessive sweating, overactive bladder, chronic pain, and migraines.

Backed by extensive research, with approximately 2500 published studies, BOTOX Cosmetic® is considered safe when administered properly. The LD50 (Lethal Dose) is an entire vial per pound of body weight, translating to a significant number of vials for an average person, making its lethal dose unattainable in practical medical use.

Administered via a fine needle directly into targeted facial muscles, BOTOX Cosmetic requires no anesthesia, though some providers may use numbing agents. Results typically become noticeable within days and can last up to four months, with longer-lasting effects possible with regular treatments. It's crucial to receive injections from qualified medical professionals to ensure safety and effectiveness.

While side effects at the injection site are possible, they are usually mild and temporary. Normal activities can be resumed immediately following treatment. Botox® is used in very small doses. The actual toxic dose is about 1 vial multiplied by
your weigh in pounds. For the average female, it would be 120 vials of Botox, or about $150,000 of
Botox®.

JUVÉDERM®:

JUVÉDERM® is a U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved dermal filler that, according to its manufacturer, Allergan, Inc., is designed to "temporarily treat moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds" in people older than 21. It can also be used to plump the cheeks, lips, and define the jawline.

JUVÉDERM® is a smooth-consistency gel that restores volume to the skin and smooths away moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds. It is made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar that occurs naturally in the body. In terms of the skin, HA's role is to deliver nutrients and hydration, and act as a cushioning agent. Young, healthy skin contains a large amount of HA, but factors that include aging and sun exposure reduce the amount, causing skin to lose structure and volume.

JUVÉDERM® is most effective in:

• Improving the appearance of nasolabial folds
• Defining the boarder of the lips

• Increasing volume in the cheeks

• Strengthening the chin in men

The results of JUVÉDERM® are visible immediately after injection; any swelling and bruising, to which ice can be applied, should subside during the next few days. Results can last 6 to 9 months, and, in some cases, up to year. However, results from Juvaderm® and any injectable dermal filler can vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental 'touch up' treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal correction of wrinkles and folds.
